At 4am, on top of the Grapevine, I pulled into a dusty lot, parking in a sea of semi trucks. I slept like a tranquilized baby until the sun came through the window far to early.
I noticed my throat and ears were inflamed. Feeling icky. My eyes looked like two tomatoes in a glass of buttermilk. At first I thought it might be a cold? Naw. Allergies maybe? I kicked a few rocks, walking over to the mini-mart, fetching some drugs and a coffee, finding some relief. The air in Southern California is rather filthy, it’s like driving through a bowl of clam chowder.
I’m almost to San Diego. After a stop at REI, and a bike shop, I’ll then slap Jo’s Tail Wagon together, pack the panniers, then rest up for my early morning departure tomorrow, beginning to pedal eastbound from the Ocean Beach Pier! Yay!
